ChimeraBio Case Study
Chimera
Bio
Active Development Project
Research operations infrastructure for modern biobanks.
ChimeraBio is a modern platform project exploring how research sample management, governance, reporting, operational oversight and future intelligence capabilities can sit within a single maintainable ecosystem.
The work began as a legacy modernisation exercise, but quickly became a broader rethink of the workflows, audit models and operational assumptions behind research sample handling.
Project Snapshot

Overview
From legacy system to research operations platform
ChimeraBio began as an exercise in revisiting and modernising an older software platform originally developed to manage research samples within a controlled environment.
What started as a framework upgrade quickly evolved into a broader exploration of how modern research operations could be supported through better governance, reporting, auditability, operational visibility and scalability.
As the rebuild progressed, it became clear that simply updating the technology stack was not enough. The assumptions, workflows and operational processes needed to be reconsidered through the lens of modern research environments.
Today, ChimeraBio is evolving into a broader research operations platform designed to support participant management, sample lifecycle workflows, governance, operational reporting and future research intelligence capabilities.
Why It Was Built
Fragmented Workflows
Research environments often rely on spreadsheets, disconnected databases and manually maintained processes.
Limited Governance
Audit visibility, operational oversight and chain-of-custody management are frequently fragmented across systems.
Scaling Challenges
As studies expand across departments and institutions, operational complexity grows rapidly.
Current Platform
Core capability areas
Platform Screens
Participant profile and sample inventory
The participant profile brings demographics, consent state, clinical context and linked sample inventory into one view, making the relationship between a participant and their stored material easier to inspect.
Sample handling workspace
The sample area brings intake, availability, allocation, issue, location transfer, removal and consent-related workflows into a single operational surface.
Audit review
The audit review view supports governance oversight with searchable activity, actor and event filters, linked participant/sample summaries and exportable reporting.
